The Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) is helping South African students with bursary via the Nyoloha Scholarship Programme (NSP) for 2024. ACT, a non-profit organization, started in 1994 and now operates in all 9 provinces. It’s not part of the government.

Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) Nyoloha Scholarship

The Nyoloha Scholarship, a partnership between ACT and Nedbank Arts Affinity, aims to support young South African performers and visual artists in pursuing higher education.

The scholarship covers various fields, including Performing Arts (like singing, dance, and acting), Visual Arts (like paintings and drawings, excluding photography), and Digital Arts (such as digital installations and computer graphics). It provides up to R350,000 for studies at a recognized South African arts institution.

If you’re a South African citizen between 17 and 25 years old, in Matric or with university exemption, planning to start an undergraduate arts qualification in 2024, and in need of financial help, you can apply.

You must not be a professional artist, and you need to agree to the application guidelines. Apply online at ACT Nyoloha Scholarship Application

Submit required documents like your ID, academic results, a photo, and, for specific disciplines, a video or portfolio. Performing Arts applicants must send a video via WhatsApp, while Digital/Visual Arts applicants must submit their portfolios this way.

The selection process has two phases: the first involves reviewing your application and video/portfolio, and the second includes an online interview for high-scoring candidates. Successful candidates will attend workshops from June to August 2024, with the finals in October 2024 in Johannesburg. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified.
