Who is Rachel Reeves? Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer

Rachel Reeves is the new Shadow Chancellor and has vowed to take on the Tories and their “unfair and harmful” economic policies.

In her first speech as Shadow Chancellor, Reeves accused the Tories of “letting down” working people and families. She said that their policies had led to “higher taxes, lower wages and less affordable housing”.

Reeves promised to “build a fairer economy” that works for everyone. She said that Labour would invest in public services and infrastructure, and raise the minimum wage.

She also said that Labour would “end the scandal of zero-hours contracts” and “make sure everyone has a decent place to live”.

Reeves’ appointment is seen as a major coup for Labour leader Keir Starmer. She is seen as a competent and experienced politician who is well-respected by economists.

Reeves is married to Nicholas Joicey, a lawyer. They have two children.
