
Lee Zeldin is a lawyer, a politician, and a U.S. Army Reserve officer. He belongs to the Republican Party and represented New York’s 1st congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2015 to 2023.
Born in East Meadow, New York, Zeldin grew up in Suffolk County. He completed his schooling at William Floyd High School and earned degrees from the State University of New York at Albany. He later got his law degree from Albany Law School.
After law school, Zeldin served in the U.S. Army for four years, including a deployment to Iraq in 2006. Following his military duty, he worked as a lawyer for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. He eventually started his own law firm in Smithtown.
Zeldin’s political career began in 2010 when he was elected to the New York State Senate. During his four years in the Senate, he introduced a bill for a 2% cap on property taxes. He also voted against the Marriage Equality Act and the NY SAFE Act.
In 2015, Zeldin won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing New York’s 1st district. During his eight years in Congress, he was part of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Financial Services Committee. He strongly supported former President Donald Trump.
