Drexel University is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Terrence Butler, a promising forward on the men’s basketball team.

The rising junior was discovered deceased in his campus apartment on Wednesday, and the cause of death remains unknown.

Terrence Butler was not only an accomplished athlete but also an active participant in various activities and organizations within the Drexel community. Known for his friendly and approachable nature, Butler was highly regarded by his peers and faculty alike.

Before joining Drexel, Butler showcased his talent at Bishop McNamara in Maryland, where he earned recognition as a Washington Catholic Athletic Conference All-Conference selection and received a 2021 McDonald’s All-American nominee distinction.

In his two seasons at Drexel, the 6-foot-7 forward faced some challenges due to injuries, limiting his appearances to eight games, primarily during his sophomore year. Despite this, he demonstrated dedication both on and off the court, earning a spot on the Colonial Athletic Association Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.

Drexel University’s president, John Fry, conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the entire institution, expressing sympathies to Terrence’s family, friends, and teammates. The university grieves the loss of a remarkable student-athlete and a cherished member of their community.
