Jimmy Buffett, King of the Parrotheads, Dies at 76

Legendary singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett, best known for his song “Margaritaville,” has died. He was 76.

The news was announced on Buffett’s website and social media channels on Saturday.

“Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music, and dogs,” the statement said.

“He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many,” it added.

Buffett was born in Mississippi in 1946 and raised in Florida. He began his music career in the early 1970s and quickly became a popular singer-songwriter. His songs, which often celebrated a laid-back lifestyle, resonated with fans around the world.

Buffett released 27 studio albums and won numerous awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for his song “Cheeseburger in Paradise.” He also had a successful career as a businessman, with his Margaritaville brand becoming a multibillion-dollar empire.
