Javonte Williams is a famous American football talent who’s taking the NFL by storm as a running back for the Denver Broncos. Born on April 25, 2000, Williams is a rising star in the world of football. Let’s take a look at his journey so far.
Hailing from the small town of Teachey in North Carolina, Williams attended Wallace-Rose Hill High School. In his senior year, he displayed remarkable skills by rushing for an impressive 2,271 yards and scoring 27 touchdowns.
Despite his incredible talent, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was the only FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) school to offer him a spot on their team. Not only was he a powerhouse on the field, but Williams also shone academically, graduating as the valedictorian of his school.
Williams began his college football journey at North Carolina in 2018 as a true freshman. He played in 11 games, carrying the ball 43 times, gaining 224 yards, and scoring five touchdowns. His sophomore year in 2019 saw him sharing the workload with fellow player Michael Carter. Together, they formed a formidable duo, with Williams rushing for 933 yards on 166 carries and adding five more touchdowns to his impressive record.
Returning to North Carolina for the 2020 season, Williams continued to shine, once again teaming up with Carter. He quickly gained recognition as one of the top running backs in the entire country. His performance even led to whispers of him being a dark horse candidate for the prestigious Heisman Trophy.
One of the standout moments of the season came when Williams and Carter combined for an astounding 544 rushing yards in a single game against Miami (FL), setting an NCAA record. Their exceptional teamwork earned them a spot on the 2020 Pro Football Focus First-team All-America list for running backs.
But Williams didn’t stop there. Pro Football Focus also bestowed upon him the title of 2020 ACC Football Player of the Year, thanks to his record-breaking rushing grade of 95.9. This was the highest rushing grade in a single season since PFF started covering college players.
