A GoFundMe campaign has raised over $56,000 to help the family of 5-year-old Harper Finn, who was critically injured in a horse racing accident on Sunday.

Harper was attending the Jefferson Memorial Races at the Effingham County Fairgrounds in Illinois when she was hit by an extended starting gate. The gate had failed to fold in after the race began, and it struck Harper in the head.
She was taken to the local hospital and then airlifted to St. Louis Children’s Hospital, where she is in critical condition.
The GoFundMe campaign was created by the Illinois Harness Horsemen’s Association to help Harper’s family with her medical expenses. The campaign has already surpassed its goal of $10,000, and as of Monday morning, it had raised over $56,000.
“Today, our hearts were shattered when a tragic accident happened to a beloved little girl, Harper,” the GoFundMe page says. “With tearful eyes and heavy hearts, we come to you, seeking your kindness and generosity to help her family.”
The page goes on to say that no amount is too small and that every donation is appreciated. “We are grateful for your generosity, and we want Harper to know that she is surrounded by caring and compassionate people,” the page says.
The Effingham County Fair management said in a statement that they are taking the accident seriously and have postponed or canceled the remaining races for the day.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
