Arleen Sorkin was a well-known American actress, screenwriter, presenter, and comedian.

She is best known for portraying Calliope Jones on the NBC daytime serial Days of Our Lives and for serving as the real-life inspiration and voice for DC Comics villain Harley Quinn, created by her college friend Paul Dini, in Batman: The Animated Series.

Sorkin was born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Brooklyn, New York.

She began her career in the early 1980s, appearing in Off-Broadway productions and on television shows such as The Golden Girls and Mad About You.

In 1984, Sorkin was cast as Calliope Jones on Days of Our Lives.

She remained with the soap opera for seven years, and her performance earned her two Soap Opera Digest Award nominations.

In 1992, Sorkin was cast as Harley Quinn in Batman: The Animated Series. The character was a breakout success, and Sorkin’s performance was praised by critics and fans alike.

She reprised the role in the spin-off The New Batman Adventures, as well as in several animated films and video games.
